Analysis on Characters

 ANALYSIS OF CHARACTERS

As we expanded upon our storyline, we decided that it would be more effective to have not one, not two, but three characters introduced in our opening. All characters became a replacement to our original prop idea, showing how they reflected the main character’s morale on Earth.

Steve

Steve is a misogynistic, stereotypical businessman who is the opposite of adored by those around him. He gets married to Maria but quickly gets bored of it due to the fact their marriage has lost its excitement. In his perspective, he views his own wife as a “psychopath” for wanting minimal needs like the slightest bit of attention from her husband. He resembles a frat boy in a man's body, stuck in the peak of his party and exciting life. We don’t want him to be perceived as a sociopath, but as a raging narcissist who only knows to put himself before everyone else. On top of this, he is considered a pervert and used to babysit a little girl, Dainty, when he was younger. He feels no remorse for how he treated her since he believes she can’t feel trauma due to her age.

Maria

Maria is Steve’s wife and has gone through countless amounts of trauma because of him. He makes her believe that she’s crazy, which pushes him to a state of insanity. When she married him, she was very young and naive and promised to be given the world. Her name was inspired by the Virgin Mary, showing the contrast in the two characters and their morale level. She ended up becoming a housewife who must attend to the kids, cook for the family, and clean, just as Steve would want her to.

Dainty

Dainty is an older girl dressed in children’s clothes. This shows her captivation in her childhood trauma after what Steve had done to her when he was her babysitter. It is never specifically said that he molests her in any way, but it should be implied through the way he acts around her. Dainty tells Steve about how he had stolen from her and Steve assumes this has to do with money, but this refers to her innocence being taken from her, keeping her at this state of adolescence. Her cynical nature is what attracted Steve since he has an attraction to women that are different, but the fact that she is a child is what makes this relationship disgusting and manipulative.
